Microneedling RF is a non-surgical treatment that uses fractional radiofrequency (RF) and microneedling to treat depressed acne scars, including rolling scars, boxcar scars, and icepick scars. It transfers controlled heat to specific areas of the skin, working by the theory of tissue coagulation and homeostasis to trigger natural healing and stimulate collagen production.
As such, in addition to treating acne scars, it effectively addresses common signs of ageing, including fine lines and wrinkles, and is an ideal option for patients who want tighter skin with effects similar to a facelift.

Microneedling RF involves ultra-fine gold-plated microneedles, allowing contact with your skin without bleeding or bruising. These needles then penetrate the skin, releasing Bipolar RF energy and denaturalising surrounding tissue. This process, in turn, triggers your body’s natural production of collagen and elastin, both essential elements in maintaining skin youthfulness.
The invention of Microneedling RF allows for conventional subcision and tackles acne scars safely and effectively without discomfort, using sharp needles or needing surface skin contact. Microneedling RF can penetrate the skin at different depths, thus paving the way for bespoke treatment for each patient.
Microneedling RF is suitable for you if you are looking to achieve the following:

One of Microneedling RF's advantages is that it uses specific gold-plated microneedles, allowing deep penetration into the skin without touching the surface or causing significant pain or downtime. The device also comes with adjustable handpieces and treatment tips, allowing us to treat all skin types, including darker skin tones.
Other benefits include:

Microneedling RF has commonly been compared to the Fractional CO2 laser and Fractional Microneedling RF, another common microneedling radiofrequency treatment. The fractional CO2 laser uses ablative laser beams to penetrate the skin; Microneedling RF does not use laser beams. While lasers effectively cut through scar fibres and stimulate collagen growth, they often come with long downtime.
Microneedling RF’s use of microneedles and radiofrequency allows for deep penetration into the dermal layers of the skin with minimal downtime. While both Fractional CO2 and Microneedling RF use microneedle radiofrequency to treat acne scars, Microneedling RF uses gold-plated, non-insulated microneedles that can penetrate skin while ensuring identical heat transmission. For those reasons, we prefer Microneedling RF.

Microneedling RF was designed with the patient's comfort in mind, so discomfort is minimal. At Ozhean Zoey, we apply topical numbing creams and other anaesthetics before the procedure to make it virtually painless or tolerable at best.
Yes, Microneedling RF can be used for all skin types in Singapore, including darker skin tones and those with combination skin types.
The number of treatment sessions varies from person to person, but for effective results, about 4-5 sessions (each done every three weeks) are generally required. Our doctors can better advise you.
You may experience some redness in the localised treatment area for the first 3-4 hours, and a scab may form, but that is normal and part of the healing process. Otherwise, you can resume daily activities almost right after. We recommend avoiding exposure to sunlight for about a week post-treatment and avoiding cleansing your face until the redness disappears. Instead, gently wash your face with cold water and apply sunscreen daily to protect your face. Avoiding medications containing glycolic acid or salicylic acid is also advisable, as they may irritate the skin.

Want your laser results to last longer?
Lasers do a great job on pigmentation and pores, but they don’t always tackle what really ages your skin - collagen loss, dryness, and inflammation.
That’s where skin boosters like PDLLA, Polynucleotide, and HA come in. They hydrate, repair, and plump your skin, giving it that healthy, rested look.
Combine them with lasers, and you’ll see longer-lasting results, often with fewer sessions.
Come visit me at Ozhean Zoey for a personalised consultation, I’d love to help your skin glow.
