To find out more about the comparisons better the latest and previous acne scar treatments, you check out our blog article: acne scars, what works and not.To understand which acne scar treatments in Singapore will yield the best result for your skin condition, let’s understand what causes the different acne scars.

Acne scars are unsightly, makes the skin “rough-looking” and makes you look older than you are supposed to.  In the aftermath of acne infection, as a result of tissue damage, our skin produces scar tissue in response—the more extensive the damage, the greater the extent of scarring.

Types of Acne Scars

Effective Pigmentation removal in Singapore will mean addressing all these causative factors. At a young age, unsightly pigments can occur as a result of birthmarks. With ageing and accumulated sun damage, unsightly hyperpigmentation can also occur. Sun damage from UV rays is by far the most common cause of unwanted, unsightly pigmentation in the skin. The key to a successful hyperpigmentation treatment is to address the causes of the pigmentation issues and recognise whether the pigmentation is superficial or deep.

Ice Pick Scars

As the name suggests, the scar’s shape looks like a defect that is left by an ice-pick.  Some of them can deceptively look like enlarged skin pores.  They are usually deeper scars and one of the hardest to treat with resurfacing lasers alone.  The reason being is that most resurfacing lasers only treat the surface and not the full depth of the scar.  In order for thorough acne treatment and hence the best acne scar treatment result for ice-pick scars, the scar treatment needs to span the whole depth of the scar.   For very deep acne scars, it is best to consider a punch biopsy in Singapore.  Needle radiofrequency (single needle) can treat narrower scars with good results.

Rolling Scars

Rolling acne scars has a roll-like appearance. Usually, there are also underlying scars pulling the surface scar inwards.  Hence, resurfacing laser treatments that work only on the scar’s surface and not beneath it, is inadequate to sufficiently treat these rolling scars. A subcision procedure and scar fillers will work wonderfully “to raise the roll” (thereby flattening it) and the resurfacing treatments such as pico or co2 resurfacing laser will smoothen out the surface.

Boxed Scars

Boxcar or boxed scars, as the name implies, the scar is boxed or looks like a squarish depression into the skin.  Smaller box car scars or crater scars, respond very well to skin resurfacing laser treatments alone.  Bigger and severe acne scars will require a subcision and scar fillers to raise the scar in addition to skin resurfacing lasers to yield a better therapeutic result.

Hypertrophic Scars

Hypertrophic scars occur as a result of excessive scar tissue in response to skin trauma or injury.  Skin cells, called myofibroblasts, produced excessive collagen during the healing process.  Nevertheless, they do not extend beyond their boundaries of the wound (in contrast to keloid scars).  Hypertrophic scars respond very well to botulinum and steroid injections, and also to dual-frequency ultrasound treatments.

Acne Scar Removal Singapore Treatments and Costs – Ozhean Zoey’s Poreless Program

Ozhean Zoey’s skincare treatments and the PICOMAX program was developed from the wealth of knowledge from Ozhean’s years of aesthetic dermatology experience.  Ozhean aesthetic clinic have enjoyed a good patient satisfaction rate of 85% thus far. Each treatment was designed to deliver the desired therapeutic result with good skin recovery and the least risk of treatment complications.

PICOMAX Laser Treatment Program

PICOMAX treatment in Singapore is Ozhean Zoey’s proprietary laser program that combines the effectiveness of 3 lasers to deliver more comprehensive results to acne scars.  The program consists of:

Proyellow laser

Advanced Nano Laser

Pico Laser

Pico lasers in Singapore have replaced more ablative lasers in the treatment of acne scars because of shorter recovery times (CO2 lasers’ recovery times might be 10 to 21 days while pico laser’s recovery time is typically 3-7 days).   Fractional pico laser handpieces focus the laser at the skin’s epidermal layer, ablating the scar tissue, however leaving the surface barrier intact.  This accounts for a better scar improvement yet a shorter recovery time.  (read out more about Pico lasers over here in our blog.)

More often than not, acne scars might be pigmented, or there are also other pigmentation issues of the skin, which is treated by our advanced nano laser.  Pro Yellow laser will reduce the general redness and flushing of the skin.  Both lasers and pico laser have a strong rejuvenating effect on the skin because of the strong collagen-stimulating properties.  Pico laser is valued from $350 onwards per session, whereas PICOMAX is valued from $500 onwards per session.

Subcision and Filler

Scars exist not just on the surface of the skin but also under the skin, tethering it down. This is especially the case for larger rolling and boxcar scars.   Subcision acne scar treatment releases the scar tissues tethering the skin down, making the scars less shallow in appearance.  Dermal fillers in Singapore work wonderfully to raise larger depressed acne scars, allowing pico laser to do resurfacing on the surface scars resulting in a smoother skin appearance.

Needle RF

Needle Radiofrequency is a treatment that introduces fine shallow needles into the skin, a controlled depth, to administer radiofrequency heat into the scar tissue.  This acne scarring treatment can reach deeper acne scars, such as ice-pick acne scars, that otherwise, lasers cannot reach.  When used together with pico lasers, they yield a significant result for acne scars.

Just like our fingerprints, each person’s skin is unique and different, which is why there is no fixed treatment formula for everyone.

“Un-customised” laser or skincare program that is insensitive to the skin type will bring about a high risk of undertreatment or overtreatment.   Undertreatment leaves unsatisfactory results while over-treatment causes unnecessary complications.

SKIN FIT program by Ozhean is a trademarked program that customises skincare and treatment care for our customers to the smallest detail.  This is why Ozhean has enjoyed good success with their clients all these years.

What is the most effective treatment for acne scars?

What is the most effective treatment for acne scars?

With its fractional handpiece, Pico laser is by far the most effective treatment for most acne scars because of its effective scar tissue ablation and hence removal while having an excellent tissue recovery compared to conventional laser treatments such as erbium or a CO2 laser (ie. Fractional CO2 laser). The risks of hyperpigmentation are higher for previous lasers because of the high laser energies and heat delivered.

However, for ice-pick scars and larger rolling scars and box car scars, adjuvant treatments such as subcision, fillers, and the needle radiofrequency need to be considered.

Improvements with acne scars with our PICOMAX or PIico programs, as well as needle frequency treatments are permanent, and they do not recur.

How long does it take for acne scars to go away with treatment?

The more severe the scarring, the extensiveness of the laser ablation is needed for its removal. This means a longer downtime and also more sessions needed. Typically, acne scars improve 20-40% each session, and healing time is typically 3-7 days.
