What is botulinum?

Botulinum is a type of FDA-approved neurotoxin produced by a bacterium called Clostridium botulinum. This treatment was only used to treat facial wrinkles back in the 1990s. However, after years of expanding the treatment, it can now treat other areas and conditions, including excessive sweating, square jaws, and calf reduction.

The neurotoxin Botulinum temporarily blocks and relaxes muscles, preventing them from moving. Depending on where it was administered, Botulinum helps to reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, stop excessive sweating, or relax jaw muscles, giving the face a V-shaped appearance.

How does Botulinum work?

The same happens when we overstretch our skin on the face. Raising your eyebrows or frowning can trigger winkle productions. These lines may not appear at a younger age, but the effects may show soon in your adult years.

This is where Botulinum Singapore treatments come in. Botulinum injections aim to ‘relax’ muscle tissues or block muscle nerve signals. Are Botulinum injections painful?

A very precise needle is used to administer a small dose of BTX directly into specific muscles. In general, the treatment is a painless, safe, and quick procedure. Most of our botox clients have experienced a series of minimal discomfort that lasts only a few seconds.

How long do the results of Botulinum injections last?

Results from Botulinum injections can last 3 to 6 months, based on the injection site, actual facial muscle function, skin condition, skin type, and the amount of dosage to be taken. For wrinkle-free skin, it is important to return for follow-up sessions. Regular, repeated sessions can slow the progression of wrinkles and prevent the formation of permanent wrinkles. What are the side effects of Botulinum?

Botulinum treatments are generally tolerable, with few reported side effects. Headaches are possible but uncommon and typically pass within a day or two. Drooping of the eyebrows or eyelids, corner of the mouth, or failure to use a straw may occur. However, that highly depends on where the injection site is located. Botulinum patients are usually told not to massage the treated region and not to lie down for three to four hours after the injection. This prevents the botox or botulinum toxin from spreading and causing other complications.
